About us

Hello, my name is Ken Nies. As Owner and Co-founder of Two Poor Teachers Inc., it is my mission to provide Quality bathroom remodeling that is affordable yet yields a high rate of return for our clients. As a former Buffalo NY, and Fairfax County Virginia School Teacher, I understand what it takes from a common sense approach to remodeling any kitchen and bath based on our clients needs. Give me a call so we can listen to your needs and design a cost effective (profit bearing) bathroom for you!

Hello my name is Tom Pennell. I helped Ken start Two Poor Teachers. I continued to teach, as Ken took over the company and made it into what it is today. I am currently in my 13th year of teaching in Fairfax County. Construction helped pay my college bills and I have not put my hammer down since. Because of the vast construction experience I have had over the years, as your project coordinator for Two Poor Teachers I am able to visualize and streamline home projects.

Hi, my name is Jeff Pregman and I am the Lead Project Coordinator for Two Poor Teachers. I will use my 12+ years of remodeling experience to keep your project on schedule and to avoid the problems that plague other remodeling contractors.

Our Process

Our goals are to make sure the remodeling process is enjoyable and end result meets and exceeds our customers expectations.  The Two Poor Teacher process normally includes the following steps.

  1. Client contacts Two Poor Teachers with remodeling request.
  2. At the clients convenience, a Two Poor Teachers project coordinator sets up a meeting to review the job and develop an estimate.
  3. The project coordinator will provide a written estimate on the spot! Many companies play games, not us!
  4. Once an agreement is reached, a deposit is required to schedule the starting date (normally 25% is required).
  5. Two Poor Teachers project coordinator provides to the client a simple materials sheet so that they may choose the items they wish installed, from Home Depot, or any other vendor (certain restrictions apply).
  6. Two Poor Teachers place the material order for each client and follow up to make sure materials are on-hand for the remodeling job.
  7. Materials are delivered on the first day of the job.  Job supervisor walks through and discusses the job with the client and the crew leader.
  8. On a daily basis, the crew leader informs the client regarding the job advances and any potential problems are clarified and resolved.
  9. Nearing completion of the job, the customer is provided a "TPT" punch list that they may use to have any corrections they feel nessary to their project.
  10. The client is provided with a job evaluation form (i.e. "Recommendation and referrals" form).
